Biography
Dr Ioannis Filippopoulos an Assistant Professor at Cyprus International Institute of Management (CIIM); is a “technology architect”, a “team leader”, an information systems and a digital transformation specialist with an exceptional passion aptitude for working with computers combined with an astounding academic background in computer, software engineering and business management. He was until recently the Academic Director of Informatics and Engineering at Hellenic American University, where he was responsible for the effective management and operation of the Division regarding the scheduling of courses, staffing, and supervision of faculty as well as with the correct and consistent implementation of all University’s policies. He was the Chief Information & Technology Officer (CIO/CTO) at a top-performing shipping company (Angelicoussis Group), where he orchestrated the entire network of hardware and software systems, as well as applications for more than 1000 users, systems covering the route of a fleet of more than 140 vessels around the world. He offered 7+ years of experience in analyzing, managing, designing, developing, and enforcing innovative and complex military projects for the Hellenic Ministry of Defense and 14+ years’ customer, technical and consulting support for several Hi-Tech companies. He is also teaching and researching innovative systems and platforms..
Dr Ioannis Filippopoulos has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Computer & Networks Engineering from the University of Thessaly, a Master of Art in Business Administration (MBA) from the Middlesex University of London, a Master of Science (MSc) in Information Technologies (IT) from the Kapodistrian University of Athens / Telecommunications & Informatics Department, a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Military Training from the Military Academy of Athens (SSE)
Dr Ioannis Filippopoulos has issued a number of publications; he took part in many conferences as a speaker, in exhibitions, in research projects on the subject of cyber security and vessels, internet of things platform, digital transformation in shipping.
He has many collaborations on the subjects: “GIS Vessel Monitoring Platform, Real-time information with ITS technology”, “Telemedicine in shipping”, “Managing forest fires with i – protect fire simulation module”, “OCTANT Ship Fleet Management Platform”, “Vessels Performance Monitoring Platform, “5GENESIS: 5th Generation End-to-end Network, Experimentation, System Integration, and Showcasing (EU 5G-PPP)”.
His most recent book (2021) contribution is: “ICT Solutions and Digitalisation in Ports and Shipping”, IET, ISBN-13: 978-1-83953-086-9. In this book are given the volumes of global ship traffic, solutions are needed to reduce waiting times, costs, energy consumption and emissions. This frequent reference on ICT solutions and digitalisation in the ports and shipping sector covers new and existing technologies, different types of digital systems and offers illustrative examples and case studies.
